She was born in 1962 and raised in a small town in Greece called Krinides, Kavala. Her parents were Savvatou and Christos Pappaioanou. Daphne made the choice to leave her country and all of her family and friends when she was 20 years old in search for a better life in the US. She has lived in Astoria in Queens ever since. A Greek immigrant and a single mom to daughter, Agnes, she has worked as a waitress in many Greek restaurants, since she is very familiar with the cuisine and culture.
