Description: Judge Jonathan T. Furman House - west side Dry Harbor Road between Cowles Court and 64th Road, on the site of current 80-16 and 80-20 Cowles Court. The house was built circa 1750 and destroyed by fire in 1928. J.T. Furman owned in 1852. 1860, 1873, then C. Monkemeyer 1891, 1896, it was occupied by Possenried in 1922. The Furman (Welsh, Firmyn) family were well established in the "Newtown" area of Queens (Maspeth/Middle Village/Elmhurst) - and the family name is the origin of Furmanville Ave. Judge Jonathan Furman was a sheriff in Queens County and Garrett Furman was a sheriff in Queens in the early 1840's.
