Description: Governor Dewitt Clinton House - NW of Junction of Maspeth Ave., Maurice Ave., 58th St., and 56th Terrace, at English Kills and east of the LIRR. Judge Joseph Sackett (d. 1755) built the two-story wood frame mansion with porches around both levels ca. 1725; Governor Clinton (1769-1828) used it as his summer house. It was later owned by Clinton's son in law David S. Jones 1846; then E. Godrey 1852, 1860; P. Grussy Owned 1873, 1891. The wing on the east was taken off, and the house was divided into tenements before it burned down in 1933.
